Game of Thrones-Themed Quiz

Game of Thrones-Themed Quiz

Do you drink and know things? Did you skip filling out a March Madness bracket in favor of a GOT death pool? Are you mumbling the names of those who've wronged you under your breath right now? On Saturday, April 20th we’re headed back to the seven kingdoms to celebrate the final season of Game of Thrones with another edition of Fire Cannot Kill a Quizmaster! If you went to the others, don’t worry, this will be bloodier, geekier, and finished long before George R.R. Martin releases another book. Yes, we've been making that same joke since 2015. It’s still true.

The vast majority of the quiz will cover the Game of Thrones TV show through Season 7. Round eight, as always, will be “Random Knowledge” and any, and everything Game of Thrones will be fair game there. No we won’t give you additional hints. Cheaters, and daughters with king’s blood, will be burned at the stake.

Admission to the realm comes at a price - $5 (no coins, paper currency please). The winners will be as rich as the Lannisters (incest and patricide optional), so bring your friends, your direwolves, and your dragons. The more commoners who play, the more riches you’ll earn.

Remember, valar quizghulis, all men must quiz, so we hope to see you on the 20th. As George R.R. Martin once warned, “for every person who doesn’t come to a Geeks quiz, I kill a Stark.”

Registration for this quiz is REQUIRED! Head on over to http://bit.ly/GameOfThronesReg to register your team.

====================================

THEMED QUIZ FAQs

Can people under 21 play?
Yes, we are an all-ages brewery.

Should I wear a costume?
YES! Some of our venues may have a costume contest if there's enough participation, but that's up to the venue and host.

How do you sign up? Where do you buy tickets?
Head on over to http://bit.ly/GameOfThronesReg to get your team registered. Please remember registrations are NOT a reservation of seating, but it will help us ensure that we have ample space for all our teams. Our theme quizzes tend to fill up quickly and we will turn away teams that did not pre-register. You will not purchase tickets in advance, simply pay the $5 per player entry fee in cash when you arrive at the quiz. Registrations will close 24 hours before the quiz and walk-up space might be available on a first come, first serve basis.

Will I get some sort of email confirmation?
You and your alternate captain should receive an automated email after submitting your registration and, as long, as long as that email doesn't indicate that you're on stand-by, you should plan to be at the quiz. The week of the quiz, we'll shoot you another reminder as well.

My city says "Sold Out"! Now what?
You can still register for the event for a stand-by spot if your city is still a drop-down option! If there's sufficient interest, or a team drops out, we'll let you know! We make no promises that you'll be able to get in, but if we can make it happen, you'll be the first to know.

When will "Stand-by" teams know if they have a spot?
That depends on a lot of factors, but we'll let you know as soon as we can. The latest you'll know is 24 hours before the event.

How do you change your team name, number of players on the team or cancel a registration?
After you've registered, you can make changes to it by emailing us at marketing@geekswhodrink.com. You can also change your team name when you arrive at the quiz.

Is this a free quiz?
No, it's $5 per person to play (bring cash!), and we'll ask you to pay for everyone on your team before we give you quiz materials. If a team member is going to be late, we won't ask you pay in advance, but if they fail to pay on arrival, your team will be disqualified.

What's the maximum/minimum players per team?
There is no minimum, but if you want to win, you should have a fully staffed squad. We're happy to help you find teammates in advance on social media or on the day of. Team maximum is strictly six players, as always. Everyone sitting with you is considered part of your team.

Do spectators have to pay?
Yes. Yes, they do. Spectators generally have to pay for sporting events, right? This also goes for Geeks Who Drink employees that aren't working at the event and the people they make love to.

Can my dad/girlfriend/friend sit at our table and not play?
No. Six people max on a team and all players must pay. If they're sitting with you and not playing, we're going to ask that they move.

Will BLANK TOPIC be covered?
Everything is fair game. Study hard. Apply yourself. And we never give clues.

How long will the quiz last?
Our regular quizzes run about 2 hours, but themed quizzes require a bit more heavy lifting in terms of logistics, scoring and extra stuff we may have planned. Average is about 2 1/2 hours.

I'd like to help promote the quiz/talk to you on my podcast/contribute some bonus prizes.
Great! Contact us at marketing@geekswhodrink.com and we'll see about making that happen.

Fearless Women Monthly Meetup

Fearless Women Monthly Meetup

ISO Fearless Women in our region looking to connect with other Fearless Women.

Women aren’t acknowledged as beer drinkers. “We are acknowledged as beer drinker’s arm candy, and I don’t know about you, but I am no piece of candy—I’m lumpy and show that I drink beer…because it is delicious,” so fantastically stated by a local prominent leader. This meetup is a great place to be brave and stretch our relationships with each other.

This monthly meetup is for women leaders to create spaces for powerful change agents in our region. We hope it will become a comfortable place for women who enjoy beer, wine, and/or cider that want to connect with other empowered, like-minded women in our community. The goal is to organically find a way to meet the needs of women entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and organizations supporting women in our community through positive, strength-building relationships over a beverage in an informal setting.

Join us for a beverage and connect with other Fearless Women as this group takes shape and finds its niche!

Come drink beer to help provide others access to clean water, which improves health, boost local economies, empower women, and give kids more time in school. A percentage of beer sales goes to providing clean drinking water for those living on this beautiful world! Be the change! Join us in this amazing movement giving back.

“When and where one grows-up and resides cannot help but strongly influence one's musical roots and songwriting. Coming "of age" in the 60's and 70's, in a rural setting - absorbing the music and embracing the culture, has led me to a writing style I refer to as "backwoods psychedelia".

I've been playing in bands and writing songs since I was thirteen. The most successful and noteworthy groups would be FOXFIRE,The Dynasorrows, and CLUSTERFOLK. My strongest early influences were The Everly Brothers,The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and others of that genre -- melodious vocals w/ sweet, slick harmonies built around acoustic instruments and folk sensibilities. As my songwriting matured, lyric content and slightly skewed story-telling became a major component. The influence of artists such as Ian Andersen, Lyle Lovette and Peter Gabriel added earthiness, whimsy, and a touch of surrealism to my songs. Additionally, a severe injury to my right wrist and the resulting numbness steered me toward a predominantly finger-picking style, which has led me to become a disciple of Leo Kottke.”

Music on the Patio: Amy Taylor

Music on the Patio: Amy Taylor

Amy Taylor is a singer/songwriter in Nashville, TN and she has been playing music her whole life. Amy performs country, bluegrass and Americana. We welcome Amy to our patio to play her original music as summer kicks off in the Fort!

“Her amazing voice has landed Amy on stage performing all over Applachia, the Mid-Atlantic, the South and other parts of the U.S. From large festivals like the International Bluegrass Music Association to opening an arena show for Mark Wills and John Berry. Amy has participated in competitions like Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic where she won Song of the Year for "Halfway to Memphis" in front of Suzy Bogguss, who is an idol of Amy's. She continues to share her great stories in songwriter rounds at places such as Bobby's Idle Hour with upcoming artists like Ashley McBryde. And she is a regular at Belcourt Taps, Jim Oliver's Smokehouse, and Natchez Hills at Fontanel. All of these experiences have given her the opportunities to play with so many great musicians, as well as some of her inspirations that she only dreamed of getting to sing with!

Looking to inspire others with her songs and voice, she also loves to sing the songs from those that greatly inspired her. Alison Krauss, Sara Evans and Lee Ann Womack are female vocalists that resonate the most with Amy. While there are so many more, but never enough space to include the rest. She never forgets about the boys, loving the songs of Randy Travis, Keith Whitley and Jamey Johnson. Each of these artist's sound and style can be heard when you listen closely to Amy.”

Music on the Patio: Jack Bryon

Music on the Patio: Jack Bryon

Join us for an evening of timeless Americana music from singer-songwriter Jack Byron, as he takes you on a journey through an eclectic catalog of original tunes with inspiration drawn from timeless musicians such as Van Morrison, Jason Isbell, the Lumineers, Tom Petty, Chris Stapleton, The Avett Brothers, Ryan Adams, Ray Lamantagne and of course Bob Dylan.  Come enjoy quality music on our patio, while sipping great beer!

About Jack Byron:

Jack Byron is a singer-songwriter from Chicago, IL. A self-taught musician, Byron's musical heroes range from The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, Jason Isbell, and John Mayer. He picked up the guitar and piano in high school, wrote his first song at 17, and has been honing his craft ever since.
With an affinity for writing about the simple joys and struggles of your everyday man and woman, Byron found himself drawn towards the Folk/Americana genre, with its rich musical heritage and storytelling tendencies. With songs ranging from topics such as relationships, travel, country living, American landscapes, love, strife, and fun times with friends and loved ones, Jack Byron is a contemporary artist with a timeless feel who delivers the essence of true Americana in a truly refreshing, completely new, and unique way.
His song, "Just A Fool,"  from the EP, Gemini Moon, won an Akademia award for song of the month in May 2016 and made it to the semi-finals of the Americana Music Association's annual songwriting contest in 2017.
Byron has appeared on WGN Chicago, AM 1050 WLIP Guaranteed Raw (Kenosha, Wi), and St. Xavier University radio. He has played iconic Chicago venues as well, including Elbo Room, 210 Live!,  Bottom Lounge, Underground Wonder Bar, Uncommon Ground, and House of Blues.  As an artist who has been recorded and mentored by the late Gary Loizzo (Producer/Sound Engineer of STYX and REO Speedwagon, and singer of the 1968 #1 smash hit, "Bend me, Shape Me"),  shared the stage with Denny Laine (Paul McCartney & Wings lead guitarist and co-writer, as well as founding member of the Moody Blues), and opened the world's premier Beatles tribute band, American English, Jack Byron is certainly on his way. He will be playing his first festival (Homegrown Festival) this year and will be releasing his first full length album by the end of 2018.

Well, she honestly has such an amazing voice, which shines on the songs that I have heard from her, plus I feel that with each song that she releases, you can tell that the song means something to her, which to me is the sign of a truly passionate artist. It won’t be long before she is taking the world by storm!” - Jessica Cambridge ( Fierce & Fabulous Review)
